PROUDLY ANNOUNCING THE TEACH OUT'S UNIT FIVE!

It's here!! After SIXTEEN successful months, FOUR successful units, and gatherings that have included more than 100+ interlocutors across THIRTEEN states (and THREE countries!), The Teach Out is ready to launch its FIFTH UNIT!

Our unit's theme will be.....

Media, Discourse, and Culture: Unraveling American Imaginaries of Race, Gender, & Intersectional Justice

Join us for a unit of conversation where we engage modern media, in the context of culture, to ask ourselves: in what ways do rhetorical forms and media structures (as well as representations) generate our current understandings and imaginations of race, socio-economic class, gender identity, sexuality, disability, Indigeneity, and much more? How do those imaginaries form the lenses through which policy, norms, law, social enmeshment, and everyday life then precipitate? How do violent discourses of race, gender, and other intersections emerge within our media sphere, and our culture? And, in what ways might we understand our media, within culture today, as holding possibilities for liberation from anti-Blackness, misogyny, transphobia, and more?

We will explore film 🎞, television 📺, podcasts 🎙, social media 📱, music 📀, food 🥘, religion 🕌, language 📝, and so much more in this unit. We will invite guest scholars, artists, community members, and creators to join our gatherings! And, we will take suggestions for topic weeks from attendees.

This unit is not to be missed!

After a brief interim period where the stage lights will go dark as The Teach Out resets its energies and resources, readies its new planning structures, and prepares to go live, this unit will begin in full on....

Sunday, October 17 at 5:00pm PST

As always, everyone is welcome. Join us!

Weekly gatherings will be posted here on the site, with week one posting by Sunday, October 3.

Come one, come all! Invite friends! The more, the merrier!

I'm so glad you're here. I can't wait to begin our work. This unit has been a long time coming, and I think will be one of our best, yet.

In solidarity,

-Heather
